Frequently Asked Questions

What is a GPX file?

GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is an XML-based file format for storing GPS data including tracks, routes, and waypoints. It is the most widely used format for sharing GPS data between devices and applications.

What devices create GPX files?

Most GPS devices and apps can export GPX files, including Garmin devices, Strava, AllTrails, MapMyRun, Komoot, and many hiking and cycling apps. LandLens also exports measurement data in standard formats.

Is my GPX data private?

Yes. Your GPX file is processed entirely in your browser. No data is uploaded to any server. The file is parsed using JavaScript in your browser and displayed on the map client-side.

What statistics does the viewer show?

The viewer calculates total distance, elevation gain and loss, track duration (if time data is included), number of waypoints, and number of tracks. Distance is computed using the Haversine formula between consecutive track points.
